This interactive (In-person) workshop will prepare simulation educators in developing and implementing assessment of learning and performance in a simulated environment. This workshop is a comprehensive overview of theory, basic elements, design, checklist/tool development and feedback that are essential for successful simulated learner assessments. Participants will learn and practice strategies on how to design and evaluate both scenario and skills focused simulation-based learner assessments in an experiential learning environment with feedback from experienced Simulation faculty.
Enrollment is limited to smaller group to encourage maximum engagement of all participants.

Target Audience
This workshop is designed for physicians, nurses, physician assistants, respiratory therapists, paramedics and other healthcare providers interested in using simulation to develop and implement assessment of learning and performance.
Learning Objectives
At the conclusion of this workshop, participants who fully engage in all activities will be able to:
- Discuss basic elements and concepts of facilitating successful learner assessments using simulation.
- Explore the process of designing simulation-based assessments, including developing scenarios & skills stations for both formative and summative learner assessments.
- Analyze various methods of developing valid and reliable learner assessment tools.
- Create appropriate assessment tools for a given learner assessment situation.
- Discuss follow up processes needed upon completing learner assessments.

Assessing Learning and Performance Using Simulation: An Introductory Workshop is held in the Mayo Clinic Multidisciplinary Simulation Center, which is located on the main floor of the Stabile Building, 150 Third St. SW, Rochester, Minnesota. It is easily accessible by skyway and the pedestrian subway that connects Mayo Clinic to shops, restaurants, and hotels.
