Nursing and Social Work Grand Rounds: Extreme Anorexia Nervosa: Best Practices, Optimal Care, and Complex Discharge Planning
Dr. Dennis Gibson will provide insight into anorexia nervosa including demographics, health care utilization of individuals with anorexia nervosa, how to recognize and understand medical complications and discuss treatment recommendations for complications associated with this complex disease process. He will share case studies to highlight challenges in providing care for this patient population.

This CNE course is designed for RNs, LPNs, social workers, and healthcare professionals.
Learning Objectives
Upon completion of this activity, participants should be able to:
- Discuss the demographics of anorexia nervosa
- Discuss health care utilization of individuals with anorexia nervosa
- Recognize and better understand the medical complications associated with restricting and purging behaviors
- Provide case presentations that highlight the difficulties in caring for patients with anorexia nervosa
- Discuss treatment recommendations for commonly encountered complications of malnutrition related to anorexia nervosa
- Better understand the disposition options for individuals with anorexia nervosa
