Mayo Clinic Electromyography (EMG), Electroencephalography (EEG), and Neurophysiology in Clinical Practice 2019
Course Directors: Devon Rubin, M.D. and Jeffrey Britton, M.D.
This course is designed as a review of techniques and topics pertaining to Clinical Neurophysiology which includes: basic physiology; pathophysiology; EEG; evoked potentials; EMG; and intraoperative monitoring. There is a focus on clinical correlation of various neurophysiological tests used for the evaluation of patients with epilepsy, sleep disorders, peripheral nerve disorders and neuromuscular disorders. Presenters are Mayo Clinic staff and faculty of the Mayo Clinic College of Medicine from the Departments of Neurology in Jacksonville, Florida, Rochester, Minnesota, and Scottsdale, Arizona.
Course Highlights
- Learn to develop a logical approach to the use of standard clinical electrophysiologic techniques in the evaluation of common and uncommon neuromuscular disorders
- Identify technical pitfalls associated with NCS and needle EMG and determine methods to correct and minimize technical problems
- Lectures dedicated to approaches and interpretation of nerve conduction study and needle EMG findings in a variety of focal and generalized neuromuscular disorders
- Extensive, interactive sessions and practice on recognition and interpretation of EMG waveform
- 4 days of small group demonstrations and workshops on common and uncommon nerve conduction studies and needle examination
- Opportunity for “hands on” nerve conduction study practice with faculty supervision
- Exposure to Neuromuscular Ultrasound
- Unusual or difficult EMG case discussions
- Learn to identify technical pitfalls associated with EEG and the normal and variant patters of adult and pediatric patients
- Learn to interpret the findings and clinical significance of abnormalities on EEG studies
- Integrate the various clinical neurophysiology studies (evoked potentials, sleep studies) in the evaluation of patients with disorders of the central nervous system
