DESCRIPTION
Medical informatics has emerged as a new discipline within healthcare in the 21st century.  Informatics has become a core element across the entire spectrum of healthcare specialties.  Clinical Informatics Grand Rounds is a monthly lecture series that provides a venue for learning about concepts and activities in a field.  Clinical Informatics Grand Rounds will cover the latest research and applications in healthcare informatics by distinguished national and international speakers.

TARGET AUDIENCE
The audience will be primarily Mayo clinicians (since interdisciplinary nature of specialty expected attendance of MDs, NPs, RNs different subspecialties with interest in clinical informatics).  There is potential attendance by researchers and information technology (IT) personnel as well.  Currently videoconferencing to Mayo Florida and Mayo Arizona.  

LEARNING OBJECTIVES
Upon completion of this activity, participants should be able to:
  • Identify information and knowledge needs of health care professionals and patients for clinical decision making.
  • Review research departmental activity.
  • Evaluate procurement, customization, development, implementation, management, validation, and continuous improvement of clinical information systems.
