Mayo Clinic’s Sports Medicine Summit: Care for the Athlete is an online CME course featuring evidence-based and cutting-edge diagnostic and treatment strategies for sports-related and musculoskeletal conditions with a concentrated focus on hip, knee, and foot/ankle conditions in the athlete. The course also involves features of education in primary care update which include lectures on COVID, sports Cardiology, platelet rich plasma (PRP) and concussion care.  The case lectures are represented by healthcare professionals in orthopedics, physical medicine and rehabilitation, radiology, neurology, cardiology, infectious disease, athletic training, and physical therapy.

This online course is a recording of the Mayo Clinic’s Sports Medicine Summit: Care for the Athlete 2023 livestream course.

Target Audience

This course is designed for athletic trainers, physical therapists and primary care physicians. Orthopedic surgeons, physiatrists, and other healthcare professionals interested in sports medicine may benefit from this program.

Learning Objectives

Upon conclusion of this activity, participants should be able to:

  • Identify current uses of ortho-biologics in hip, knee, and foot/ankle pathologies. (BOC Domain 2; Task 203)
  • Measure the basics of ultrasound for diagnosis in hip, knee, and foot/ankle. (BOC Domain 2; Task 202)
  • Interpret the most up-to-date COVID recommendations regarding cardiac clearance and athletic participation. (BOC Domain 4; Task 407)
  • Illustrate the best treatment approach for 5th metatarsal (MT) stress reactions/stress fractures/fractures. (BOC Domain 4; Task 403)
  • Distinguish the latest literature regarding anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) graft selection. (BOC Domain 2; Task 202)
  • Recognize the latest anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) rehab protocols. (BOC Domain 4; Task 404)
  • Identify treatment options for hip femoroacetabular impingement (FAI). (BOC Domain 4; Task 403)
